Mike Perry also ended a two-game losing streak by signing a one-way victory against Mickey Gall in the undercard of the fifth UFC gala to be held behind closed doors in the gaming capital of the United States .

The main fight was explosive from the start, as the two lightweights exchanged an impressive number of punches without worrying about their defense. The second round was even more spectacular, as the two fighters suffered quite a lot of punches and kicks which hit the target on both sides.

The fight was transported to the ground on the fourth engagement, and Poirier attempted several submission maneuvers blocked by Hooker. Poirier seemed to have more energy in the fifth round, and he eventually dominated the judges' cards: 48 – 47, 48 – 47 and 48 – 46.

“It was difficult,” admitted Poirier. Dan wanted to fight. He is tough. It is on the rise. He really believed he could beat me. I trusted my team, my talent and my determination. “

Poirier (26 – 6) crowned his ascent with a victory against Max Holloway in April 2019 to obtain the interim lightweight title. However, he lost the belt against undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov last September, and a leg injury prevented him from returning to the octagon for a while.

He was back at the top of his form against Hooker (20 – 9), a New Zealand kickboxing specialist who had won seven of his last eight duels since 2016.

This was the last of five action weekends at the UFC’s Apex Gymnasium, located on the circuit’s official Las Vegas campus. The UFC organized eight closed-door galas during the coronavirus pandemic, after an eight-week break.

The UFC will take a week-long break before resuming its activities on 12 July on the island of Yas , in Abu Dhabi, with the presentation of the UFC gala 251, a card which will include three championship fights. The mixed martial arts circuit will present a total of four galas in 14 days at this place, nicknamed Fight Island, before returning to the States -United.
